DPM Bin Chhin Emphasises Significant Role of ACC

AKP Phnom Penh, January 15, 2019 -H.E. Kittinitekorsalbandit Bin Chhin, Standing Deputy Prime Minister, Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, has highlighted the important role of the Asian Cultural Council (ACC) in promoting cultural diversity.

“I am optimistic that the ACC will play an important role to help promote cultural diversity, preservation of cultural relics, cultural manifestations and traditional knowledge as well as interfaith dialogues among the people of Asia and make sure they are used as tools for peace, reconciliation, cooperation and sustainable development in the region and beyond,” underlined this evening the Cambodian DPM in his closing remarks at the Official Launching of ACC in Siem Reap provincial city.

With the great potentials of its rich culture, Cambodia is always happy to join and share experiences with other countries around the world, particularly those in Asia through joint undertakings and collaborations in the fields of culture, education, science, research and innovation, especially in this ACC platform, he added.

Throughout the whole day of ACC meeting, experts and speakers have made presentations and actively engaged in in-depth discussions on many issues of great significance, particularly around four main themes: emerging multi-conceptual world and Asian identity; connecting culture and sustainable development; promoting civilisation connectivity through information technology; and 4) building a community of common destiny in Asia.

H.E. Bin Chhin encouraged the ACC Secretariat to further strengthen cooperation with the International Conference of Asia Political Parties (ICAPP) and UNESCO so as to turn the ideas and recommendations from this meeting into concrete initiatives, action plans, projects and measures in order to effectively promote people-to-people connectivity, cultural exchanges, mutual understanding and respect, close cooperation, lasting peace, sustainable development and shared prosperity in the region and across the globe.

The ACC was established in 2018 by ICAPP and has representation from more than 350 political parties from 52 countries across the region.

The Council is recognised by UNESCO after the tripartite agreement – between the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), ICAPP, and ACC—was signed on the Dec. 4, 2018 in Siem Reap.
