AKP Phnom Penh, December 15, 2018 -Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to protect Chiphat natural tourism area in Thmar Baing district, Koh Kong province despite tremendous value of titanium found in that area.
The Cambodian Premier made the reaffirmation while receiving in Koh Kong this morning visiting General Manager of the World Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club (World-Bays Club) H.E. Bruno Bodard, H.E. Sry Thamrong, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, told reporters after the meeting.
The Ministry of Mine and Energy has proposed titanium extraction worth up to US$22 billion in Chiphat and with this amount of income, Cambodia would no longer depend on foreign assistance for the country development, but the Kingdom will not authorise this mining project because it will destroy more than 20,000 hectares of forests and other natural resources in the area.
For his part, H.E. Bruno Bodard highly appreciated Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s strong will to protect the environment.
