Cambodian PM Suggests Including Counterfeit Medicines in International Meetings

AKP Phnom Penh, November 05, 2018 —Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen of the Kingdom of Cambodia suggested including the topic of combating falsified and substandard medicines in the 13th ASEM Summit to be hosted by Cambodia in 2020 and ASEAN Summit next year as well as in Francophone mechanism.

The Cambodian Premier made the suggestion while presiding over here this morning the Regional Conference on Combating Falsified and Substandard Medicines.

In addition, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said he would ask all participating political parties from nearly 100 countries in the ICAPP (International Conference of Asian Political Parties) meeting in Nepal later this month to support the Phnom Penh Declaration focusing on countering falsified and substandard medicines.

Besides, Samdech Techo Prime Minister encouraged all participants to prepare and take necessary steps to reform the laws and regulations as required by their respective countries in order to ensure that the legal framework conforms with the international mechanism and to boost more cooperation to address the issue.

The two-day Regional Conference on Combating falsified and substandard Medicines attracted 450 local and international medical practitioners, experts and policy makers from Cambodia, China, France, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam as well as from 20 international organisations.
