OHCHR Takes Note of Cambodia’s Human Rights Progress

AKP Phnom Penh, October 23, 2018 —The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights H.E. Ms. Michelle Bachelet took note of the progress of human rights sector in Cambodia, especially the rights of women, children, and workers.

​​This was made known in a working discussion between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and H.E. Ms. Michelle Bachelet, in Geneva, Switzerland yesterday, on the sidelines of the UNTAD 2018 World Investment Forum, according to Cambodian Premier’s official Facebook page.

H.E. Ms. Michelle Bachelet thanked the Royal Government for extending the mandate of Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Cambodia for two more years.

Although some challenges remain, H.E. Ms. Michelle Bachelet pledged to include the good points in the OHCHR’s report on Cambodia as well as continue to cooperate with and support Cambodia.

For his part, Samdech Techo Prime Minister said despite different stances, the cooperation between Cambodia and OHCHR will continue. The Premier also sought for more cooperation to increase more understanding between both sides.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen took the opportunity to invite H.E. Ms. Michelle Bachelet to pay a visit to Cambodia.

After the talk, Samdech Techo Prime Minister witnessed the signing by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn and H.E. Ms. Michelle Bachelet, of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Royal Government of Cambodia and OHCHR for the Implementation of a Technical Cooperation Programme on Human Rights.
