Samdech Techo Hun Sen Highlights Japan’s Key Contribution to the Development of Cambodia

AKP Phnom Penh, October 07, 2018 — Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has expressed his gratitude to Japan for its significant contribution to the peace-seeking process, reconstruction and development of Cambodia.

Cambodia’s current progress in inseparable from the assistance and support from the Government and people of Japan, stressed the Cambodian Premier at a luncheon hosted on Oct. 7 by Yokohama Mayor Ms. Fumiko Hayashi, on the sidelines of the 10th Mekong-Japan Summit in Tokyo, Japan, according to Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s official Facebook page.

The Cambodian leader also mentioned about the presence of well-known Japanese professional footballer Mr. Honda Keisuke in Cambodia to lead the Cambodian national football team for two years, at the request of Samdech Techo Hun Sen during their meeting in Phnom Penh in December 2016.

For her part, Ms. Fumiko Hayashi expressed warm welcome to Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s visit to Yokohama and briefed him on the development of her city. She also lauded the good relations between the two countries.

On the same day, the Cambodian Prime Minister visited Minato Mirai development area and Yokohama Port Cargo Centre, Japan’s major deep Container Port, in Yokohama, and Ariake Water Reclamation Centre in Tokyo, a separate sewage system water treatment facility.

Diplomatic ties between Cambodia and Japan turn 65 years in 2018. Japan opened its embassy in Phnom Penh in 1992 while Cambodia established its embassy in Tokyo two years later. Both nations upgraded their relations to the level of strategic partnership in 2013.
