AKP Phnom Penh, September 11, 2018 — China-based telecommunications company Huawei will continue its investment in Cambodia’s IT sector for a long-term period.
The commitment was made by President of Huawai’s Southeast Asia Region Mr. Wu Weitao while paying a courtesy visit to Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, on Sept. 10 afternoon, during the Premier’s stay in Nanning, China’s province of Guangxi for the 15th China-ASEAN Expo.
Mr. Wu Weitao thus sought support from the Cambodian Prime Minister to his company’s investment project in Cambodia.
In addition, he informed Samdech Techo Hun Sen of the study of the master plan of ICT and technology in Cambodia which will be completed in the near future.
In reply, Samdech Techo Hun Sen lauded Huawei’s investment in Cambodia, as well as its assistance to Cambodian human resource training in the field of IT. He voiced his support to the investment in technology, but meanwhile advised the company to have measures to well manage, mainly the posting of fake news which seriously harm the nation and which is also the world’s concern.
On the occasion, Mr. Wu Weitao offered US$100,000 to Samdech Techo Hun Sen in contribution to his humanitarian activities.
Huawai company has been present in Cambodia for 19 years, providing training and jobs for around 1,000 locals.
