Samdech Techo Hun Sen Urges Cambodia, Laos to Boost Bilateral Trade

AKP Phnom Penh, August 17, 2018 —Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has urged Cambodia and Lao PDR to continue promoting their bilateral trade exchange.

H.E. Eang Sophalleth, assistant to the Cambodian Premier told this to reporters after the farewell meeting between Samdech Techo Hun Sen and outgoing Ambassador of Lao PDR to Cambodia H.E. Prasith Sayasith.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the two-day trade has doubled, but it does not respond to the potential of both nations, therefore the two sides should increase their efforts.

According to the outgoing Lao diplomat, the two-way trade between Cambodia and Lao PDR has risen from US$10 million to US$24 million this year.

H.E. Prasith Sayasith expressed his regret for the Cambodian people who were affected by floods due to the collapse of the Xepian-Xe Nam Noy hydropower dam in the Lao province of Attapeu, and thanked Cambodia for its humanitarian assistance to the Lao victims.

Besides, he lauded the rapid development of Cambodia and congratulated Samdech Techo Hun Sen on landslide victory of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party, and as an election observer, he highly valued the 6th National Election in Cambodia held in a smooth and transparent manner.

In reply, Samdech Techo Hun Sen highly valued H.E. Prasith Sayasith’s contribution to the strengthening of the friendship and solidarity as well as economic cooperation between both countries during his diplomatic term of four years and two months.

The Cambodian Premier also expressed his deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to the Lao victims of the hydropower dam incident.
