UK Welcomes Cambodia’s Election Result

AKP Phnom Penh, August 17, 2018 —Newly appointed British Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Ms. Tina Susan Redshaw has welcomed the result of the 6th National Election in Cambodia.

While paying a courtesy call on Cambodian Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn here yesterday, the new British diplomat encouraged the new Cambodian government to continue doing its best to fulfill the people’s needs, H.E. Ket Sophann, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, told reporters after the meeting.

H.E. Prak Sokhonn thanked H.E. Ms. Tina Susan Redshaw for the remarks, adding that more than 83 percent of the total 8.38 eligible voters went to vote in the July 29 general elections.

Besides, the Cambodian top diplomat recalled the cooperation between the two countries in the field of training on diplomacy and in mine clearance and requested the British side to continue assisting the ASEAN Regional Mine Action Centre (ARMAC).

H.E. Prak Sokhonn suggested the exchange between Cambodian and British businessmen and asked for preferential trade arrangements from the British government.

According to H.E. Ms. Tina Susan Redshaw, UK will issue a statement on a three-year assistance to Cambodia thanks to the latter’s high commitment in mine clearance, together with continued vocational training for Cambodian youths.

Regarding the cooperation with ASEAN, UK will become a dialogue partner of ASEAN and Cambodia will support UK to be an active partner of ASEAN.
