PM Lashes Out at Some Ministers over Poisoning Case in Kratie Province

AKP Phnom Penh, May 25, 2018 –Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has lashed out at some ministers over the recent case of poisoning in Kantuot commune, Chet Borei district, Kratie province.

Speaking to reporters before the weekly cabinet meeting here at the Peace Palace this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen strongly criticised some of his cabinet ministers for their reports to the media before to the Head of Government over this poisoning case.

“We’ve commissioned the Ministry of Health to work on this issue since the beginning and the ministry has also made an official clarification on this case. So why should there be other comments leading to conflict between ministers […]?” he asked.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also warned to fire some cabinet ministers for their irresponsibility.

“I feel so embarrassed, as a Prime Minister, but I won’t give up. I’d better dismiss those ministers. I am not a dictator, but leading a country or an institution is not a kids’ game, especially when it involves human life and the country development,” he said.

Yesterday, the Ministries of Health, Industry and Handicraft, and Mines and Energy made public a joint statement clarifying that the deadly poisoning case in Kratie was caused by a combination of contaminated water by insecticides and methanol-laced rice wine.

The early May’s poisoning killed at least 13 people and injured many others.
