AKP Siem Reap, April 05, 2018 –The Kingdom of Cambodia and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) have lauded their relations and agreed to further promote their bilateral trade exchange.
The agreement was made by the two countries’ Premiers – Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen of Cambodia and H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith of Lao PDR during their bilateral meeting in Siem Reap city, Siem Reap province yesterday afternoon on the sidelines of the 3rd Mekong River Commission (MRC) Summit hosted by Cambodia.
According to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Prime Minister, both leaders vowed to increase the scope of cooperation in the fields of trade, investment and tourism.
H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith expressed his concern over the decreasing bilateral trade between the two neighbouring nations from the current US$20 million, while Samdech Techo Hun Sen noted more potential in the trade exchange.
The Cambodian premier said he will examine the possibility of local airlines to increase direct flights between Cambodia and Vientiane and Luang Prabang.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen also suggested the study on avoidance of double taxation as Cambodia has signed such agreement with Vietnam, and requested the Lao side to check the possibility of electricity supply to Cambodia which will contribute to boosting trade, investment and the close relationship between the two countries.
