AKP Phnom Penh, January 14, 2018 – Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen held a get-together and hosted a lunch for 308 cyclo drivers, at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre, Phnom Penh yesterday.
On the occasion, the premier announced to officially launch the Tricycle (Cyclo) Foundation, stressing “Today is not only the launch or creation of the foundation, but also the beginning day of its operation.”
This is a voluntary association, no one is force to join it, said Samdech Techo Hun Sen, adding that the main aim of the foundation is to help the real cyclo drivers, and its budget will not be used in the wrong target.
Any clyco drivers who are members of this foundation will get free medical treatment at all state-run hospitals and receive a daily financial support of 7,000 Riel (US$1.75) for the cyclo rent and maintenance, and food. Besides, there would be some extra funds during national and traditional festivals, etc.
At this auspicious event, Samdech Techo Hun Sen was elected the Honorary President of the newly established foundation.
The Prime Minister also called on all cycle drivers to respect the traffic law and not to use alcohol, and encouraged all travel agencies and tourism operators to promote cyclo among the tourists.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen and his spouse provided each of the 308 cyclo drivers with 570,000 Riel (US$142.5), and a kit (blanket, jacket, Krama, raincoat …). For the daily fund, it will be given to them through Wing, a leading money transfer and payment service provider.
