H.E. Prak Sokhonn: Japan Grants Cambodia US$ 300 Million in 2017

AKP Phnom Penh, December 21, 2017 –Japan is the biggest donor country for economic infrastructure and social development in the Kingdom of Cambodia and for social service improvement like health, education and human resources. In 2017 alone, the government of Japan has granted the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) a total of 5.2 billion Yen (approximately US$ 312 million).

The information was shared by Senior Minister and Minister Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn during signing Exchange of Notes on grant aid worth 3,170 million Yen (approximately US$ 28million) for two National Institute of Cambodia (NIE) construction projects in Phnom Penh city and Battambang province, with Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Horinouchi Hidehisa, at the office of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Dec. 20.

Of the amount US$ 321 million, about US$ 5,77 million is scholarship provision for human resource development, said H.E. Prak Sokhonn, adding that the above said US$ 28 million will vastly contribute to educational sector reform in Cambodia for human resource building with high capacity for the achievement in policy on national social economic development and livelihood promotion of Cambodian people.

H.E. Prak Sokhonn said that the two new NIE will be installed with equipments soon to expand possibility and train teacher-trainees in accordance with the Kingdom’s development.

Taking the opportunity, on behalf of RGC, H.E. Prak Sokhonn thanked the government of Japan and Japanese people who have always provided assistance sequentially.

For his part, H.E. Horinouchi Hidehisa said that human resources are pillars of the nation, stressing that Japan has been contributing to training human resources in industrial sector of Cambodia through school construction and so on.
