Samdech Techo Hun Sen Officially Appointed Global Ambassador for Tourism and Sustainable Development Goals

AKP Phnom Penh, December 09, 2017 – Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has been officially appointed “Global Ambassador for Tourism and Sustainable Development Goals” by the European Council on Tourism and Trade (ECTT).

Professor Dr. Anton Caragea, Executive President of Parliamentary Assembly for the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals, handed over the Letter of the designation to Samdech Techo Hun Sen this morning at the Peace Palace, Phnom Penh under the witness of many senior officials, local and foreign guests.

This important role was presented to the Cambodian premier in recognition of his lifetime effort promoting sustainable development, inclusive and supportive tourism and in order to harness his abilities and knowledge for the benefit of world-wide growth, employment, and development agenda 2030 of the United Nations.

The Global Ambassadors for Tourism and Sustainable Development Goals are leaders and prominent personalities who have committed to promote the role and contribution of tourism in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda.

Meanwhile, ECTT conferred the award of World Capital of Culture and Tourism to Phnom Penh.

Professor Dr. Anton Caragea lauded the leadership role of Samdech Techo Hun Sen who has led the country from “zero” to the current development, while Mr. Mircea Constantinescu, Director of European Tourism Academy, said the award to Phnom Penh reflects the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitment and incredible achievements in the past 30 years in safeguarding culture and heritage and in ensuring the preservation, development and promotion of religion, tradition, and custom.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked the ECTT for its confidence on Cambodia and announced to share this title and award with all his compatriots who have contributed to the country development.

ECTT is an international and non-profit organisation with its headquarters in Bucharest. Its role is to market and promote tourism and investment opportunities outside the European Union in general, and to individual countries in particular. It is the WORLD TOURISM INSTITUTION gathering European and regional tourism organisations and representing a market of 800 millions costumers from all around Europe with members and delegations in 27 countries.
