Samdech Techo Hun Sen Calls for Boycott of Pesticide-Contaminated Vegetables and Fruits

AKP, October 02, 2017 –Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has made an appeal to the Cambodian people to boycott the pesticide-contaminated vegetables and fruits.

If people stop eating those pesticide-contaminated vegetables and fruits, they will not be grown and produced anymore, the premier underlined at the inauguration ceremony of Sokha Siem Reap Resort in Siem Reap province this morning.

So far, he added, the government has been blamed of authorising the import of pesticide-contaminated vegetables and fruits, but contribution from people is also needed, i.e. stop buying those vegetables and fruits so that they will not be imported anymore.

According to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Cambodia imports some US$200 to US$300 million worth of vegetables and fruits a year as local supply is not enough. He therefore called for more organic cultivation of vegetables and fruits.

The Ministry of Tourism is advised to create more green areas around the tourist attraction sites in order to generate jobs and income for Cambodian farmers and to reduce foreign imports.
