ZTE Corporation Plans to Expand Investment in Cambodia’s Telecommunications Sector

On the afternoon of 17 July 2026, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from Mr. Xiao Ming, Representative of ZTE Corporation, on the occasion of his working visit to the People’s Republic of China and his participation in the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), held from 15 to 17 July 2026

During the meeting, the representative of ZTE Corporation briefed Samdech Thipadei on the company’s business operations, noting that it specialises in the supply of telecommunications equipment and the provision of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions. He further noted that the company currently operates in more than 160 countries and ranks second globally in the provision of 5G network solutions. The representative further stated that ZTE has been operating in Cambodia for more than two decades. Building on its successful investment in the country, the company plans to further expand its investment in Cambodia as a provider of telecommunications network and ICT solutions. It also intends to invest in the Cambodia Sovereign AI Foundation Model, as well as the National AI Infrastructure and Ecosystem. Over the years, the company has made significant contributions to expanding rural telecommunications connectivity, optical network deployment, and fixed and mobile broadband services in Cambodia.

In response, Samdech Thipadei highly commended the company’s achievements and its significant contribution to the development of Cambodia’s telecommunications sector. He welcomed ZTE Corporation’s plans to further expand its investment in Cambodia. Samdech Thipadei further emphasised that the technology sector remains one of the Royal Government’s key priorities. He noted that the Royal Government continues to promote the development of the sector as a key driver of digital transformation and socio-economic development. Samdech Thipadei added that the Royal Government has also been promoting and encouraging the development of a highly skilled ICT workforce, noting that capacity-building efforts focus not only on equipping people with the skills to use technology, but also on developing technologies, fostering creativity, and promoting innovation.
