Cambodia and Vietnam Agree to Further Deepen Bilateral Relations in the Spirit of Good Neighbourliness, Traditional Friendship, Comprehensive Cooperation, and Lasting Stability

On the morning of 8 June 2026, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUNManet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held bilateral talks with His Excellency Le Minh Hung, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, during his official visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and his participation in the 3rd ASEAN Future Forum (AFF), held in Hanoi on 8–9 June 2026.

During the meeting, Excellency the Vietnamese Prime Minister highly valued Cambodia’s rapid progress across all sectors and expressed confidence that, under the leadership of Samdech Thipadei, Cambodia would continue to achieve further development and significant accomplishments.

In response, Samdech Thipadei congratulated Viet Nam on the strong economic growth and expressed confidence that, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and the Vietnamese Government, VietNam would successfully realise its development goals for 2030 and its long-term vision for 2045.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction with and highly valued the excellent progress in relations and cooperation across all sectors between Cambodia and Viet Nam. They also agreed to organise a series of commemorative activities to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2027. At the same time, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening bilateral relations and elevating them to a new level in the spirit of good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term stability.

The two leaders also discussed and exchanged views on enhancing cooperation in key priority sectors, including politics, economy, trade and investment, security and defence, education and vocational training, healthcare, tourism, culture, energy, infrastructure connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges. Samdech Thipadei highlighted the importance of expediting decisions regarding the connection points between the Phnom Penh–Bavet Expressway and the Ho Chi Minh City–Moc Bai Expressway, enhancing waterway connectivity, and expanding direct flight links between the two countries. In the economic and trade sectors, Samdech Thipadei called for the simplification of procedures governing direct cross-border cargo transportation in order to reduce transit times between the two countries.

Before concluding the meeting, the two leaders exchanged views on cooperation within regional and international frameworks with a view to advancing the shared interests of both countries.
