Cambodia and China Commit to Further Deepening Bilateral Relations and Cooperation

 

On the afternoon of 22 April 2026, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from His Excellency Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Admiral Dong Jun, Minister of National Defence of the People’s Republic of China, at the Peace Palace. The meeting took place on the occasion of the two ministers co-chairing the first “2+2” Strategic Dialogue Mechanism between the Foreign and Defence Ministers of Cambodia and China from 22 to 23 April 2026 in Phnom Penh.

During the meeting, His Excellency Wang Yi and Admiral Dong Jun expressed their appreciation for the warm welcome and conveyed greetings from President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang of the People’s Republic of China to Samdech Thipadei.

His Excellency Wang Yi highly valued Cambodia’s rapid and dynamic development and congratulated Samdech Thipadei on leading the country towards progress across all sectors. He also highlighted the strong and long-standing friendship, which has reached the level of building an “All-Weather Cambodia–China Community with a Shared Future in the New Era.” His Excellency Wang Yi emphasised that their participation in the “2+2” strategic mechanism implemented the consensus reached by the leaders of both nations to promote development, improve livelihoods, and further deepen bilateral cooperation.

In response, Samdech Thipadei extended a warm welcome to His Excellency Wang Yi, Admiral Dong Jun, and the delegation on the occasion of their visit to Cambodia. Samdech Thipadei also conveyed his greetings to President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. He congratulated China on its remarkable achievements and expressed deep gratitude to China for the continued close attention to the medical care and warm hospitality extended to His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni and the Queen Mother. At the same time, Samdech Thipadei highly valued the progress of bilateral relations, which have reached the level of Ironclad and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, as well as the ongoing efforts to build a Cambodia–China Community with a Shared Future in the New Era. He underscored Cambodia’s commitment to further strengthening and expanding cooperation between the two countries across all sectors. Furthermore, Samdech Thipadei reaffirmed Cambodia’s unwavering adherence to the “One China” policy and thanked the Chinese government and people for their contributions to Cambodia’s socio-economic development and the improvement of the Cambodian people’s livelihoods.

Samdech Thipadei, His Excellency Wang Yi, and Admiral Dong Jun also discussed enhancing cooperation in key areas, including politics, economy, trade and investment, defence and security, clean energy, transport infrastructure, and agriculture. They further exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between the two countries within regional and international frameworks.

Samdech Thipadei also informed His Excellency Wang Yi, Admiral Dong Jun, and the delegation about recent developments regarding the Cambodia–Thailand border situation and reaffirmed Cambodia’s position to resolve border issues peacefully based on international law and in accordance with existing conventions, treaties, and bilateral agreements between Cambodia and Thailand.
