Visiting UK Minister Supports PM’s Initiative of Supreme Consultation Council

AKP Phnom Penh, August 23, 2018 —Visiting UK minister has expressed his support for the formulation of the so-called Supreme Consultation and Recommendation Council initiated by Cambodian Prime Minister.

Minister of State for Asia & the Pacific of United Kingdom H.E. Mark Field underlined his appreciation of the initiative in yesterday’s meeting with Cambodia’s Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn at the ministry office here in Phnom Penh.

The Supreme Consultation and Recommendation Council will progress positively and the spirit of national reconciliation and unification will continue to step forward, said the UK minister.

After landslide victory of his party during the July 29 general elections, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen convened a historic national consultation meeting with representatives of losing political parties and floated the formulation of a Supreme Consultation and Recommendation Council.

The council will serve as a forum for the leaders of losing political parties to share their constructive insights for policies and services of the sixth-mandate Royal Government of Cambodia led by Samdech Techo Hun Sen – President of the winning Cambodian People’s Party.

Along with many others including the majority of losing political parties themselves, H.E. Mark Field considered this a positive move for Cambodia.

The UK minister spends Aug. 22-23 to visit Cambodia during this six-country trip to Southeast Asia to liaise the stand of the United Kingdom with ASEAN.
