Samdech Techo Hun Sen Presides over the Closing Ceremony of a Tourism Promotion Event

AKP Phnom Penh, March 01, 2018 – Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen presided over here yesterday afternoon the closing ceremony of the 2017 Tourism Stocktaking and Direction-setting for 2018 Conference in conjunction with the National Day of Clean City under the theme of “Clean City for All” and 2nd Clean City Awards Ceremony for 2018-2021.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sèn urged all stakeholders to take part in achieving the vision of attracting 15 million international tourists by 2030 by paying high attention to the promotion of connectivity, especially air connectivity, and creation of package tours and opportunities for diversification and expansion of Cambodian tourism scope.

Besides, the premier underlined that peace, political stability and social safety are the strong factors for tourism development, adding that no tourist wants to visit a war-torn country.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also called for the improvement of infrastructures at main tourism destinations, preservation of Khmer architecture and culture for any construction in the national parks and cultural heritage sites, respect of laws and environmental regulations for any development along the beach, strict management of the use of water, energy and other substances that could harm natural resources […]; and continuation to attract more tourists with responsibility.

Tourism is a key driver for Cambodia’s economic growth which reached last year 7 percent. The sector contributed some 13 percent to the country’s GDP. Cambodia expected to welcome 7 million international tourists with US$5 billion income and 1 million direct jobs in 2020, and 15 million foreign visitors with US$10 billion income and 2 million direct jobs by 2030.
