On the afternoon of 27 August 2026, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from a delegation of U.S. Congressional members at the Peace Palace. The delegation included the Hon. Jimmy Panetta, Democratic Representative for California; the Hon. Jim Baird, Republican Representative for Indiana; the Hon. Julie Johnson, Democratic Representative for Texas; and the Hon. Kristen McDonald Rivet, Democratic Representative for Michigan.
During the meeting, the U.S. Congressional delegation expressed its appreciation for Cambodia’s rapid development across various sectors. The delegation also expressed its satisfaction with the positive progress in U.S.–Cambodia relations and cooperation across a number of key areas, including trade and investment, security, demining and unexploded ordnance (UXO) clearance, and healthcare. Furthermore, the delegation highlighted that the visit provided an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the practical potential and bilateral relations between the two countries, affirming its commitment to continuing efforts to support the U.S. Government in further advancing and expanding cooperation between the two countries. On that occasion, the delegation reaffirmed that the United States would continue to support demining and UXO clearance efforts in Cambodia.
In response, Samdech Thipadei expressed his appreciation and satisfaction with the excellent relations and growing bilateral cooperation between Cambodia and the United States. Samdech Thipadei reaffirmed the Royal Government of Cambodia’s strong commitment to strengthening and expanding the bond of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, emphasising that both countries continue to possess significant complementary potential and opportunities. Additionally, Samdech Thipadei highlighted the growth in trade volume and foreign direct investment (FDI) in Cambodia, as well as efforts to build economic resilience and strengthen Cambodia’s capacity in key sectors, such as textiles and agriculture, driving the transformation into finished products to boost exports to international markets.
Samdech Thipadei and the U.S. Congressional delegation also exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral cooperation in healthcare, security, and national defence.
Before concluding the meeting, Samdech Thipadei expressed his profound appreciation for the continued support of the United States for demining operations and renewed his gratitude to His Excellency President Donald J. Trump and the U.S. Government for facilitating the ceasefire and the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration of 26 October 2025. Furthermore, Samdech Thipadei briefed the U.S. Congressional delegation on the latest developments concerning the Cambodia–Thailand border situation, stressing Cambodia’s firm commitment and position to pursuing a peaceful resolution of border issues on the basis of international law and in accordance with the existing conventions, treaties, and agreements between the two countries.
