AKP Phnom Penh, December 13, 2025 –Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has advised the Prime Minister and the Royal Government of Cambodia to consider temporarily suspending cross-border travel between Cambodia and Thailand in order to ensure the safety of citizens of both countries amid the current security situation.
In a message released this afternoon on his social media platforms, Samdech Techo noted that over the past several days, Thai military forces have carried out attacks that have resulted in civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure in Cambodia, including bridges, roads, schools, and pagodas.
He further stated that weapons such as toxic gas and cluster munitions have reportedly been used in multiple locations, including areas where Thai nationals live and work inside Cambodian territory.
In his capacity as President of the Senate, President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King, and President of the ruling party, Samdech Techo said he had offered this advice to the Prime Minister and the Royal Government to consider suspending all cross-border travel by Cambodian and Thai citizens.
Under the proposed measure, Cambodian nationals currently living and working in Thailand would continue to remain there, while Thai nationals residing and working in Cambodia would likewise stay in Cambodia until the ceasefire is fully implemented.
Samdech Techo explained that the measure is intended solely to ensure the safety of civilians from both countries, particularly to prevent risks associated with cross-border travel during the ongoing situation.
He called on Cambodian citizens living in Thailand and Thai nationals living in Cambodia to understand the necessity of the proposal, and urged the Royal Government of Cambodia to take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of Thai nationals currently residing in Cambodia, so that they are not harmed by ongoing hostilities.
