Cambodian PM Optimistic of U.S.-ASEAN Relations

Phnom Penh, March 02, 2020 –The Head of the Royal Government of Cambodia has reiterated his optimism over the U.S.-ASEAN relations, even though U.S President H.E. Donald Trump has postponed the ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit scheduled for Mar. 14, 2020.

Addressing to a graduation ceremony of more than 1,500 students of Asia-Euro University here this morning, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, said the postponement of the forthcoming special meeting does not mean that the U.S. ignores the relations with ASEAN.

According to the Cambodian Premier, there were different analyses over the U.S.’ decision to delay the ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit, anyway he expressed his support to the U.S. President’s decision.

It would be due to COVID-19 or because some ASEAN leaders could not attend the summit due to different reasons, he said.

The ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit was planned to be held on Mar. 14, 2020, but two days ago, the U.S. side has announced the postponement, as the international community has been busy with combating the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
