China Funds More Than 3,000 km of Roads in Cambodia

Phnom Penh, March 09, 2020 –Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen said China had financed the construction of more than 3,000 kilometres of roads in the Kingdom.

The figure was shared at the inauguration ceremony of National Road No. 55 with a total length of 182.16 kilometres and the groundbreaking for the construction of National Road No. 10 with a total length of 198.71 kilometres, held in Veal Veng district, Pursat province this morning.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his gratitude to China for its support for the physical infrastructure development in Cambodia.

According to H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, the construction of National Road No. 55 linking Pursat provincial city to Thmar Da, at the border with Thailand, cost some US$132.80 million funded by China and the national budget of the Royal Government of Cambodia.

The road was constructed by China Road and Bridge Corporation under technical control of Guangzhou Wanan Construction Supervision Co., Ltd., and these companies are also in charge of the construction of National Road No. 10 linking from Samlot in Battambang province to Koh Kong province with an estimated cost of US$188.38 million for an expected duration of 48 months, starting in December 2019.

Cambodia has so far constructed more than 16,292 kilometres of national and provincial roads.
