Phnom Penh, October 12, 2019 –Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen held a get-together and had a solidarity dinner with more than 3,000 Christians at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre, Phnom Penh this evening.
This is the 4th consecutive year that the Premier hosted a gathering and solidarity dinner with Cambodian Christian communities in the Kingdom.
Speaking on the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said he is proud of the religious harmonisation in Cambodia, stressing that all religious communities have lived together peacefully under cool shade of His Majesty the King and the constitution.
Samdech Techo Prime Minister expressed his appreciation to all religious groups for their contribution to maintaining peace, national unity, social order and stability in the country.
According to the Ministry of Cults and Religious Affairs, Christianity has been present in Cambodia since 1923. There are two groups of Christianity in the Kingdom – Catholic and Protestant – with a total of about 117,675 Christians.
Cambodia is recognised by its religious freedom even though Buddhism is the state religion. Some 95 percent of the population of about 15 million are Buddhists with some 4,500 pagodas and 56,820 monks across the country. Islam has about 300,000 followers.
