Phnom Penh, December 17, 2018 –Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has highlighted the dramatic progress of the country’s energy sector in the past 20 years.
While presiding over the inauguration ceremony of 400-megawatt Lower Sesan 2 Hydropower Plant in Stung Treng province this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said in 1998, Cambodia had only 150 megawatts of electricity, but 20 years later, the figure rose to 2,648 megawatts.
This is one of the achievements attained thanks to the Win Win Policy set forth by the Royal Government of Cambodia 20 years ago, he said.
As investments increase, demand for energy also increases, stressed the Premier, pointing out that Preah Sihanouk and Siem Reap provinces now need some 100 megawatts of electricity each, up from only 10 and 20 megawatts, respectively, before.
On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also announced the plan to lower electricity fees for 2019-2020.
