PM Hun Sen Presides over Celebration of Teachers’ Day 2018

AKP Phnom Penh, October 05, 2018 —Some 1,300 teachers from the capital and provinces gathered here this morning at the National Institute of Education to mark the Teachers’ Day 2018 under the theme “Quality Teacher is Quality of Human Capital for Sustainable Development”.

The celebration, the 21th of its kind, was presided over by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Initiated by the Premier in 1997, the Teachers’ Day is aimed to recall the sacrifice and endeavours of teachers in fulfilling their role as trainers, said H.E. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports on the occasion.

H.E. Minister also laid stress on the ministry’s ongoing reform for qualified Cambodian human resources.

According to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Cambodia has currently more than 120,000 education staff.
To date, there are 121 higher education institutions, 633 high schools, 1,884 lower secondary schools, 7,621 primary schools and 4,632 kindergartens in Cambodia.
