Cambodian PM Reaffirms Religious Harmonisation in the Country

AKP Phnom Penh, June 26, 2018 —Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, this morning re-affirmed the religious harmonisation in the country and the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitment to further promote religious freedom.

Speaking at the inauguration of different Buddhist achievements in Preah Indra Samaky Dhamma in Trapaing Krapeu village, Kraing Makak commune, Ang Snuol district, Kandal province, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said Cambodia has been paying high attention to the religious harmonisation to ensure that the Kingdom has neither ethnic nor religious conflicts.

Besides, the Premier lauded the role and contribution of Buddhism to the peace and development of Cambodia.

Buddhism is the state region of Cambodia. More than 95 percent of the Cambodian people practice Theravada Buddhism with two important sects – Dhammayuttikanikaya and Mahanikaya. There are about 60,000 monks in some 5,000 pagodas across the country.

Besides Buddhism, about 300,000 people practice Islam, and some 0.25 percent of Cambodian people follow Christianity, animism and so on.
