Three Buddhist Monks Receive Honorary Title of “Samdech”

AKP Phnom Penh, May 24, 2018 –Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his spouse Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen presided over here this morning at Botum Vattey pagoda the award ceremony of the honorary title of “Samdech” to three respected Buddhist monks.

The title was bestowed to Samdech Preah Oudom Mony Chea Sam Ang, Samdech Preah Puth Chey Mony Khim San, and Samdech Preah Sakya Mony Rath Saroeun. They are from Buddhism’s Dhamma Mahanikaya.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his congratulations to the three respected monks, and expressed his pride with the progress of Buddhism in Cambodia.

Cambodia is a Buddhism-practicing country with 95 percent of the population are Buddhists, and the constitution also stipulates that Buddhism is the state religion.

There are currently more than 4,500 pagodas and 56,820 Buddhist monks throughout the country.
