On the afternoon of 9 June 2026, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from Her Excellency Seema Malhotra, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Indo-Pacific at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the United Kingdom, during his official visit to and participation in the 3rd ASEAN Future Forum, held in the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam on 8–9 June 2026.
During the meeting, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State expressed her satisfaction with and high appreciation for the progress achieved in Cambodia–UK relations and cooperation. She also expressed her satisfaction with the close partnership between the relevant ministries and institutions of both countries, particularly in the field of public financial management, as well as their joint efforts to promote increased British investment in Cambodia. Her Excellency Seema Malhotra further highlighted the importance of diversifying the United Kingdom’s partnerships by establishing ties with ASEAN Member States in order to enhance connectivity, share best practices, and exchange valuable experiences with countries in the region.
In response, Samdech Thipadei highly commended the United Kingdom’s valuable contributions to Cambodia’s socio-economic development, through its support for humanitarian mine action and the expansion of bilateral trade. He noted that diversification serves as an important means of strengthening connectivity by broadening markets and expanding trading partnerships for all countries. Samdech Thipadei also concurred with Her Excellency Seema Malhotra’s views on strengthening the United Kingdom’s engagement with ASEAN Member States, including Cambodia, particularly through enhanced cooperation in the economic and trade sectors.
Samdech Thipadei and the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State also exchanged views on further strengthening cooperation in education, a priority sector that continues to attract strong interest among Cambodian students and offers substantial mutual benefits to both countries. Samdech Thipadei encouraged the United Kingdom to continue promoting cooperation in this field. Furthermore, Samdech Thipadei and Her Excellency Seema Malhotra discussed enhancing cooperation in defence and security, with particular emphasis on combating online scams. Samdech Thipadei underscored the Royal Government of Cambodia’s firm measures and close cooperation with various countries in combating online scams. He emphasised that these enforcement efforts would continue until such criminal networks are completely dismantled in Cambodia. The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State highly commended Cambodia’s resolute measures in this regard.
Before concluding the meeting, Samdech Thipadei and Her Excellency Seema Malhotra exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, underscoring the importance of strengthening cooperation among all nations in contributing to global peace and prosperity.
