US Deputy Secretary of State Highly Commends the Progress of Cambodia–US Relations  

On the afternoon of 9 June 2026, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from His Excellency Christopher Landau, Deputy Secretary of State of the United States of America, during his official visit to and participation in the 3rd ASEAN Future Forum, held in Hanoi, the capital of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, on 8–9 June 2026.

During the meeting, the Deputy Secretary of State expressed his pleasure at the progress of relations between the United States and Cambodia, emphasising that both countries continue to have significant opportunities to further strengthen and deepen bilateral cooperation. He also highly commended the conclusion of the landmark Open Skies Agreement between the United States and Cambodia, noting that it would further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation. At the same time, he expressed his satisfaction with the Royal Government of Cambodia’s efforts to create a favourable investment environment that encourages American companies to invest in and expand their operations in Cambodia, thereby contributing significantly to the country’s socio-economic development. Furthermore, the Deputy Secretary noted that Cambodia possesses tremendous potential in the tourism sector due to its rich cultural heritage, which is globally recognised.

In response, Samdech Thipadei expressed his satisfaction with and high appreciation for the steady growth and positive outcomes of Cambodia–US relations and cooperation, reaffirming Cambodia’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties. Samdech Thipadei also briefed the Deputy Secretary on the policies and measures introduced by the Royal Government of Cambodia to support the private sector and provide a conducive environment for foreign businesses operating in Cambodia. He further highlighted the Royal Government’s ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure connectivity and logistics, through the expansion of the capacity of the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port and the construction of the Funan Techo Canal, a multipurpose water resource management project aimed at improving transport efficiency, enhancing Cambodia’s competitiveness, creating employment opportunities, and promoting sustainable socio-economic development.

Samdech Thipadei and the Deputy Secretary also exchanged views on combating transnational crime. Samdech Thipadei highlighted the Royal Government’s firm measures and close cooperation with various countries, including the United States, in combating online scams. He emphasised that these efforts would continue until such criminal networks are completely dismantled in Cambodia. The Deputy Secretary highly appreciated Cambodia’s resolute actions in this regard.

Before concluding the meeting, Samdech Thipadei briefed the Deputy Secretary on recent developments regarding the Cambodia–Thailand border situation. He underscored Cambodia’s commitment to resolving the border issue peacefully, based on international law and in accordance with the existing conventions, treaties, and agreements between Cambodia and Thailand.
