On the afternoon of January 08, 2025, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from Mr. Keith Magnus, chairman of Evercore Asia, at the Peace Palace.
 
During the meeting, Mr. Chairman expressed his admiration for the success of Cambodia development across all sectors and highly valued the Royal Government’s Pentagonal Strategy-Phase I aimed at achieving Cambodia Vision 2050. He also respectfully provided an overview of the Campany’s business operation to Samdech Borvor Thipadei and conveyed the company’s interest in enhancing cooperation with Cambodia in renewable energy, health and tourism.
 
In response, Samdech Borvor Thipadei expressed his pleasure at the company’s interest and highlighted the Cambodia’s energy development policies, which Cambodia currently is utilizing about 62% renewable energy and has set a goal to reach 70% by 2030. In addition, Samdech Borvor Thipadei also emphasized the policies aimed at enhancing the health sector, such as strengthening and expanding health services nationwide. He added that Cambodia still has untapped potential in other sector which the company can take into consideration, including agriculture, manufacturing, finance, and banking. In this regard, he encouraged the company to continue engaging with ministries and institutions and fostering the connections and collaboration between the international private sector and Cambodia private sector.

During the meeting, Mr. President expressed his pleasure and admiration for Cambodia’s rapid development across all sectors, with remarkable progress in rice, logistics, and other infrastructure sectors. He also conveyed his optimistic confidence in Cambodia’s potential and extended his congratulations for Cambodian rice winning the World’s Best Rice Award at a conference held in Manila, Philippines, in November 2024. Mr. President further affirmed his support for Cambodia’s hosting the World Rice Conference in 2025. Additionally, he expressed his pleasure in having collaborated with Cambodia in promoting the rice sector.

During the meeting, Neak OukNha Hun Lak, President of the Policy Advisory Council of the Cambodia Rice Federation, respectfully reported to Samdech Borvor Thipadei on the federation’s progress and activities in promoting Cambodian rice exports to international markets. Neak OukNha also emphasized the federation’s efforts to improving the quality of Cambodian rice, including purchasing rice from farmers, organizing drying processes, managing storage, and exporting rice to international markets.

Samdech Borvor Thipadei highly commended the Cambodia Rice Federation for its collaboration with the Royal Government in developing the rice sector. He highlighted the critical role of agriculture in promoting the livelihoods of the people and driving Cambodia’s socio-economic development. Samdech Borvor Thipadei stressed the Royal Government’s commitment to prioritizing rice as a long-term strategic crop for Cambodia. He underscored the importance of implementing necessary policies to support rice cultivation and ensure the competitiveness of Cambodia’s rice sector. This includes building infrastructure to streamline transportation and reduce production costs, promoting domestic supply chain ownership, and expanding exports to international markets.

On that occasion, Samdech Borvor Thipadei encouraged the Cambodia Rice Federation to further strengthen its collaboration with relevant governmental ministries and institutions to boost direct exports to international markets with higher added value. He also urged the federation to provide technical training to farmers to improve product quality and productivity, as well as to widely disseminate information on the progress and development of Cambodia’s rice production.

Both sides discussed efforts to further promote friendly relations and bilateral cooperation.

The two ministers discussed the enhancement of ties under bilateral and multilateral framework particularly in trade, investment, and people to people exchange. His Excellency Zheenbek Kulubaev expressed his intention to welcome Cambodian students in the field of medical science since Kyrgyzstan has expertise and has welcomed students from many countries in the field.

On the occasion, His Excellency Deputy Prime and His Excellency Zheenbek Kulubaev signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Bilateral Consultations between the two foreign ministries and agreed to convene the first meeting at an early date.

Kyrgyzstan is a country located in the Central Asia region with a population of approximately 7 million and forged diplomatic ties with Cambodia in 1995.
