Cambodian PM to Deliver a Statement at General Debate of UNGA’s 75th Session This Weekend

Phnom Penh, September 22, 2020 –Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, will deliver his statement at the General Debate of the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Sept. 26, 2020 in the format of pre-recorded video.

The 75th Session of the General Debate of the UNGA takes place in New York from Sept. 22 to 29 under the theme “The future we want, the United Nations we need: reaffirming our collective commitment to multilateralism—confronting COVID-19 through effective multilateralism action”.

According to a press release of the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, made public this afternoon, the Cambodian Premier’s upcoming statement will be centered on the impact of COVID-19 on global socio-economic development and exploration of ways and means for the post COVID-19 economic recovery; the essence of multilateralism for the global peace and prosperity; the emerging unilateral sanction as a threat to the international law; climate change and terrorism issues; and Cambodia’s achievement on socio-economic development through promoting and maintaining the national peace and sovereignty.

Preceding the 75th Session of UNGA, it pointed out, Samdech Techo Prime Minister has delivered a statement at the High-Level Meeting to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the UN, on Sept. 21, focusing on the importance of multilateralism in addressing complex global challenges during an unprecedented period of severe socio-economic impacts posed by COVID-19 pandemic, the issue of politicisation of human rights in accordance with geopolitical agenda and superpower rivalry that continue to disrupt the capacity to protect fundamental human rights and to achieve ambitious goals of the 2030 Agenda of developing nations, and the importance of respecting the United Nations Charter.
