Cambodia Wants to Be an Observer of OIC

Phnom Penh, May 08, 2019 –Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen said Cambodia wanted to get an observer status in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

At a Ramadan Iftar Dinner with some 4,750 Cambodian Muslims at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre, Phnom Penh yesterday, Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced to nominate Senior Minister H.E. Othsman Hassan as a special envoy of the Kingdom of Cambodia to negotiate for an observer status in the OIC.

Cambodia wants to build closer relations with all the OIC’s member countries which will contribute to the Kingdom’s socio-economic development and human resource training through provision of scholarships and training for Cambodian Muslim students and other Cambodian people.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also called on the OIC member countries to buy Cambodian products, including Halal food.

Founded in 1969, OIC is the second largest inter-governmental organisation after the United Nations with a membership of 57 states over four continents. The Organisation is the collective voice of the Muslim world. It endeavors to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony among various people of the world.
