Samdech Techo Hun Sen Cambodian Prime Minister Holds Separate Meetings with President of Turkey and Kyrgyzstan

Phnom Penh, June 15, 2019 –Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held separate talks with Presidents of Turkey and Kyrgyzstan, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan this afternoon, on the sidelines of the 5th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

In their meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen and H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Turkey, agreed to boost the bilateral trade exchange between the two countries to US$1,000 million a year, up from only US$91 million currently.

To do so, the Cambodian Premier suggested the creation of a list of goods that can be exported and imported between both countries.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also voiced his support to Turkey’s request to become a dialogue partner, from the current sectoral dialogue partner of ASEAN, and pledged to work with other countries to enhance the Turkey-ASEAN partnership.

During the meeting with H.E. Sooronbay Jeenbekov, President of Kyrgyzstan, Samdech Techo Hun Sen proposed the nomination of ambassador in each other’s country, the signing of a memorandum of understanding on political consultations between the two countries to discuss international relations and trade exchange, stressing that Cambodia can export textile and garment products to Kyrgyzstan.

On behalf of His Majesty the King, Samdech Techo Hun Sen invited H.E. President of Kyrgyzstan to pay a state visit to Cambodia and the Prime Minister expressed his desire to visit Kyrgyzstan as well.

Cambodia established diplomatic ties with Turkey in 1959 and with Kyrgyzstan in 1995.
