Cambodia, China Reaffirm Their Strong Friendship

Phnom Penh, April 28, 2019 —The Kingdom of Cambodia and the People’s Republic of China have reaffirmed their strong friendship and mutual trust.

In their bilateral meeting in Beijing, China this morning, on the sidelines of the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and Chinese Premier H.E. Li Keqiang said the two countries are good friends and have mutual trust.

Both leaders vowed to continue strengthening their cooperation for the interest of the two countries and peoples.

The two sides have been working to ensure the harmony and connectivity, both hard and soft, between Cambodia’s Rectangular Strategy and China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen asked his Chinese counterpart to encourage the Chinese companies to continue its presence in Cambodia and many others to invest in the Kingdom, and to open the market for more Cambodian products.

Moreover, the Cambodian Premier sought China’s support for Preah Sihanouk province, especially in wastewater management, clean water development project, rural development so as to make Preah Sihanouk a model province of the implementation of “One Belt, One Road” initiative.

For his part, H.E. Li Keqiang underlined the Chinese government’s clear will to assist Cambodia and pledged to convince the Chinese companies to increase their production chains in the Kingdom.

Nothing will break the strong relationship between Cambodia and China and the latter will assist the former in all areas, he stressed.

Following their bilateral talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing ceremony of six important cooperation agreements related to the fields of investment, customs affairs, rice exports, Cambodia-China shared destiny community establishment, and so on.
