Cambodia, Vietnam Committed to Continue Ensuring Stability and Security along Common Border

AKP Phnom Penh, September 13, 2018 —Cambodia and Vietnam have been committed to continue protecting peace and ensuring stability and security along the common border in order to turn the border area into a zone of development.

The commitment was made by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his Vietnamese counterpart, H.E. Nguyen Xuan Phuc during their bilateral meeting this morning, on the sidelines of the 27th World Economic Forum (WEF) on ASEAN in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Both sides also agreed to further facilitate cross-border trade and promote cooperation in the fields of tourism, education, sports and health as well as people-to-people connectivity.

H.E. Nguyen Xuan Phuc profoundly thanked Samdech Techo Hun Sen for his participation in the 27th WEF on ASEAN in Vietnam and congratulated him on his reelection as Prime Minister of Cambodia.

The Cambodian Premier thanked his Vietnamese counterpart for the congratulations and expressed his delight to continue working with other ASEAN leaders to carry on their mission of building a stronger and prosperous ASEAN Community.

The two leaders also discussed ways to boost the two-way trade to reach their goal and exchanged views on regional and international issues of common interest.

H.E. Nguyen Xuan Phuc informed Samdech Techo Hun Sen of the invitation extended to His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, and Her Majesty the Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk to pay a state visit to Vietnam next year.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister accepted his counterpart’s invitation for a visit to Vietnam in the near future to sign bilateral trade agreement between two neighbouring nations.
