Japan Provides US$7 Million to Support Economic and Development Programme in Cambodia

AKP Phnom Penh, February 21, 2018 –Cambodia and Japan signed here this morning the Exchange of Notes and Record of Discussions on the extension of Grant Aid up to the amount of US$7 million for the implementation of the economic and social development programme in Cambodia.

The documents were inked by Cambodian Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn and Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Horinouchi Hidehisa.

This grant aid will be used to implement the economic and social development programme, in the framework of which, the Government of Japan will provide ballot boxes as well as other necessary equipment to the National Election Committee (NEC) for the upcoming general election to be held in July, according to a press release of the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, NEC President H.E. Sik Bun Hok said the Government of Japan has provided 15,000 ballot boxes for the forthcoming national election.

Japan is one of the biggest donors for the development of various sectors in Cambodia, including election reform, infrastructure construction, human resource training, Khmer Rouge Tribunal, and so on.
